Networks
The generic .net TLD, one of the original domains dating back to January 1985, is intended for network use, although its established nature and age ensures that it is still a popular choice for use by individuals, businesses and informal groups. Names may be registered by any individual, company or corporation and the use of the .net domain is relatively extensive compared to many of the other generics, except .com. Names may be transferred without difficulty between accounts at registrar and between regstrars. The registry operation was awarded to and renewed to Verisign by ICANN
